CALCTRIC / CONVERSION

Feet and inches accept fractions, such as 6 1/2.

HOW TO USE IT

From inputs to insight.

  1. Choose the category for the quantity you have.
  2. Select From and To units, then type the value. Feet and inches accept fractions such as 6 1/2.
  3. Read the automatic result. Swap units carries the answer into the reverse direction with extra precision.
  4. For kW ↔ kVA, enter the applicable power factor as a percentage.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Ten feet. Exactly 3.048 metres.

Choose Length, From Feet and To Metres. Enter 10. The international foot is exactly 0.3048 m, so 10 × 0.3048 = 3.048 m.

Know what the answer means.

Temperature conversions are actual temperatures, not temperature differences. Circular mils and kcmil describe area, not conductor insulation or trade size. Mechanical and metric horsepower are different units.

kW and kVA require power factor; this conversion does not include motor efficiency. Display rounding does not change the underlying answer. Definitions match the app and NIST conversion conventions.

Calculation aids can contain errors. Verify inputs and real conditions independently. Read our terms and safety disclaimer.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Make sense of the result.

How many millimetres are in an inch?

One international inch is exactly 25.4 mm. Choose Length, From Inches and To Millimetres. For example, 6 1/2 in converts to 165.1 mm.

Can I enter fractions for feet or inches?

Yes. Use a positive fraction or mixed number such as 1/2 or 6 1/2. The value is in the selected From unit. Choose the measurement calculator when you want to add separate feet and inches entries.

What is the difference between kW and kVA?

kW measures real power; kVA measures apparent power. Choose kW ↔ kVA and enter power factor as a percentage. At 80% power factor, 8 kW corresponds to 10 kVA. This does not include motor efficiency.

Does Swap units reuse the rounded result?

Swap carries up to 15 significant digits into the reverse conversion. The displayed answer may be shorter, but the swap does not rely only on those displayed decimal places.

Can I convert a temperature difference?

This tool converts actual temperatures, such as 20°C to 68°F. Temperature differences need a different treatment because the offset between the scales does not apply. Do not use the actual-temperature conversion for a temperature rise.
