From input to answer.
- Open All Tools → Inches. Clear the previous calculation with C.
- Enter a whole number, then choose ¼, ½ or ¾ for its fractional part. Use Units when the input is in feet or a metric unit.
- Choose an operation, enter the next value and tap equals. Operations chain in entry order.
- Hold and slide on the fraction controls to refine the fraction; slide down to expand the fraction view. Read the result in your selected output unit.
WORKED EXAMPLE
Adding two cut lengths
Enter
Enter 13, choose ¼, tap +, enter 2, choose ½, then tap =. Both inputs are inches.
Read the result
13¼ in + 2½ in = 15¾ in. That is also 1 ft 3¾ in. The inch display rounds to the nearest 1/16; the calculation retains its precision.
Get more from it.
- Choose the input unit before moving to the next operand. A fraction applies to that selected unit: ½ ft is 6 in.
- Fraction keys replace the fractional part of the entry; repeatedly tapping ¼ does not add another quarter.
- Use History to revisit a result. Work from the original result when more arithmetic is needed, rather than a rounded transcription.
Know the limits.
- Displayed fractional inches are rounded to 1/16. This does not make the source measurement accurate to 1/16.
- Chained operations run in entry order, rather than algebraic order of operations. Use separate calculations when grouping is important.

Common questions.
Can I mix feet and millimetres?
Yes. Choose the correct input unit for each value, and change the result unit when needed.
Why can the decimal and fraction look slightly different?
The decimal can retain a value between sixteenths; the tape readout rounds it.
